Wakko
A robot for the city of Kusatsu, designed by Eiji Shintani
Wakko is a friendly robot made for the city of Kusatsu, in Shiga, Japan, for Kanaria.tech, the company led by Ibrahim Orhan. Its character was designed by Eiji Shintani, who worked for years as a designer at Sony.
Studio Software produced the body. It is 3D printed in 22 parts and three materials: standard resin for the shell, super clear resin polished extra clear for the transparent parts, and TPU for the flexible ones. The parts are finished in six Pantone colours, matched to Pantone swatches.
Inside the shell sit an NVIDIA AI computer, sensors, OLED screen eyes and a tablet. Wakko made its debut walking in the city's festival parade.
